Water: More precious than Gold

Benjamin Smith (HAWK) I spoke to Hawk when meeting with Rusty in Nimbin. He was obviously very weak, and when I asked him, he showed me the scars of the operation required to save his life after the beating he received at the hands of security personnel at Timbarra Mountain. He was a quiet fellow... Slightly build, and clearly no physical threat to anyone. He simply wasn't big enough to be dangerous. Yet Hawk was assaulted, and hospitalized as a result. His assault is on video, and I saw quite clearly how he was dragged away from a group of protesters, and savagely beaten by men who are easily identified. Have these men been charged with assault? No... The Police have not even spoken to them, or questioned them over the incident. Again... Why? In any case where people are being assaulted, it is a Police DUTY to question those involved... If a person who has been physically assaulted asks the Police to press charges, as Hawk has done, the Police have a DUTY to interview people and see if the prosecution is to be followed up. This was never done. The Police state the video shows no evidence of malicious conduct... But the hospital report states otherwise. The video footage proves otherwise, and the injured protester now carries a crippling wound that prevents him from carrying out a normal life. Again... It brings up the question. The Police were prepared and indeed required by Law to protect the Mine at Timbarra from unlawful assault.... But when the protesters conducting LAWFUL assembly are beaten up... The Police suddenly are not in the limelight anymore. Can we cut the crap and admit the obvious... SOMEONE is being paid. SOMEONE is hiding the facts. SOMEONE does not want the matter of assault on protesters to be dealt with. All I can say is that when the local Member asked the Premier of New South Wales to look into this matter, he was told to stick his nose somewhere else. |
